Network for Integrity in Reconstruction (NIR) in Action
NIR's work is focused on community engagement in reconstruction, knowledge & capacity building and policy engagement & advocacy.
Community Engagement in Reconstruction
NIR research and experience has found that community engagement, whereby citizens have access to information, build their capacities and strengthen state-society relations through collaboration, increases accountability in post-war reconstruction and reduces the risk of return to violence. NIR engages communities and international partners in strengthening capacities, monitoring reconstruction and advocating for more transparent, accountable and effective management of public resources and services in post-war states.
Approaches vary from country to country, but the integrity builders in each country share a common vision of empowering communities to actively take part in (re) building institutions to promote accountability and effectiveness in aid and the post-war state. Read about NIR partners here.
Knowledge & Capacity Building
NIR provides tools, training and support to civil society, government and international development partners in conflict-affected countries on collaborative governance, data collection and advocacy.
At the national level, we facilitate workshops with government, civil society and international development partners to address the challenges of transparency and accountability in situations of conflict and fragility.
Across conflict-affected countries, we organise field exchanges and workshops to enhance learning, monitoring and evaluation, test our approaches, and share experiences. We work with university partners to offer courses on leadership and management for integrity including practical sessions on social accountability and (re) building the post-war from below.
Policy Engagement & Advocacy
Complementing our work with our partners on the ground, NIR acts as a policy platform for building integrity and trust in war torn societies. Through our evidence-based engagement at the local, national and international level, NIR has led the nascent and fast growing policy field of integrity, transparency and accountability in post-war reconstruction.
